Google Analytics Plugin For WordPress
Notice: Docs in need of an update
Google Analytics (GA) is one of the better site statistics services around — and most certainly the best one you can get for free.
The Google Analytics plugin for WordPress lets you easily add Google's web tracking script to your site:

The interfaces are fancy, and the fine grained stats and AdSense integration make it a particularly powerful tool when you're seeking to push a product online using AdSense.
Note: If you don't want Google to know your stats, try the HitsLink plugin.
Default Usage
Activate the plugin, sign up with Google Analytics, and paste the urchin.js script, complete with user ID, provided by Google under Options / Google Analytics.

The plugin is set up to automatically ignore authors that are logged in, and track special events that may occur on your pages, including newsletter subscriptions and clicks to outbound links.
Frequently Asked Questions
It doesn't work
There were very recent developments in the GA service which are not implemented in the plugin. Specifically, you need to use the legacy urchin.js script, rather than the new (and more powerful) ga.js script. Page event tracking will be implemented in the next plugin update.

Update Notifications
Version checker is the best way to get update notifications. You'll receive them within your Plugins screen directly. You can additionally subscribe to the Semiologic blog or to the Semiologic newsletter.
I usually stick to announcing Semiologic Pro updates in the newsletter. Software from this site invariably gets updated at the same time. I sometimes also organize a webinar on what's new around the same date.
